Be Warned: The Road is Brutal

Getting there isn’t easy—and that’s part of the charm. From Mataram, it takes roughly 2 hours by vehicle. But the last leg of the journey involves rough, unpaved roads, often covered in stones and loose sand. After rain, it can get muddy and dangerous.

Motorbikes (preferably trail or semi-off-road) are highly recommended. Cars can make it part-way, but not all the way to the beach. Also, avoid relying on scooter routes from Google Maps—set it to car mode instead. The alternate path can lead to a steep, unsafe shortcut.

There are no fences, no guards, and no designated trails on the cliffs. And when the wind picks up, it can be dangerously strong. Don’t stand too close to the edge. Don’t risk selfies on narrow ledges. This is nature—respect it.

Minimal Facilities—So Come Prepared

Pantai Penyisok is not yet commercialized. No warungs. No toilets. No beach chairs or coconut sellers. Bring your own water, snacks, a mat, power bank, raincoat, and maybe even a ukulele if you’re into chill vibes. Entrance is Rp 10,000 per person, and the beach is open 24/7.

A few visitors noted that there’s some trash around the cliffs, so please pack your waste and help keep the beach clean.

Not far from the beach are Masjid Batu Apung and Lingkoq Datu, two ancient cultural sites believed to be linked to early Islamic influence and local kingdoms. They’re not grand monuments, but for those interested in local history, they add depth to the trip.
