Seger Beach Lombok: Magical and Legendary Coastline

Seger Beach

You know, it is jus another stone’s throw from the Mandalika Circuit in Central Lombok, Seger Beach is more than just a pretty place. It’s a blend of striking natural beauty, cultural heritage, and a local legend that still lives on through a beloved annual festival.

With soft white sand underfoot and calm waves lapping the shore, Seger Beach offers a peaceful retreat from the everyday. Framed by lush green hills and open sky, it’s a photogenic spot made for slow days, sandy toes, and unforgettable sunsets.

Take a moment to enjoy the wide open views of nature and feel the cool ocean breeze on your skin. Let your mind unwind and feel your stress melt away, replaced by calm and comfort.

Seger Beach, located in Central Lombok, is the perfect place to relax and recharge. One of its unique features is the sand — the grains are round and big, shaped like peppercorns! Add the clear blue sea in front of you, and it’s hard to resist jumping right in.

If you’re looking for peace and quiet, Seger Beach is ideal. The area is calm and not crowded, perfect for sunbathing or simply sitting and enjoying the beautiful view. The water is so clear that you can easily see the coral beneath the surface.

When the tide is low, you can even walk out onto the exposed coral. With a bit of luck, you might spot small fish hiding among the rocks — a quiet little adventure right by the shore.

Story Behind the Beauty of Seger Beach

Seger Beach Lombok

Behind the beauty of Seger Beach lies a famous local legend that is still believed by the people who live nearby. It’s the story of Princess Mandalika, a beautiful daughter of King Tonjang Beri.

Many princes from different kingdoms wanted to marry her. To everyone’s surprise, the princess agreed to all of their proposals. This made the princes confused and angry, as none of them wanted to share her love. In the end, they decided to go to war — whoever won would marry the princess.

But before the war began, Princess Mandalika heard about the plan. She didn’t want anyone to get hurt, so she went into deep meditation. On the 20th day of the 10th month in the Sasak calendar, she called all the princes to Seger Beach.

There, she told them something unexpected — that no one could have her heart, because she believed her destiny was to become nyale, or sea worms, which could be shared and enjoyed by all the people.

Right after saying that, Princess Mandalika jumped into the sea and disappeared. Her body was never found. But soon after, nyale appeared on the ocean’s surface in large numbers.

Since then, the Bau Nyale Festival has been held every year at Seger Beach. It’s a way to honor Princess Mandalika’s kindness and her sacrifice to stop a war. The nyale are not only collected during the festival — they are also eaten and are believed to be high in protein.
