Ekas Beach: Coastal Beauty and Quiet Life in East Lombok

Ekas Beach

Located in a quiet bay along East Lombok’s southern edge, Ekas Beach shows what peaceful feeling feels like like. Its wide arc of white sand meets calm, glassy water — a setting that feels made for silence, reflection, and the kind of rest you didn’t know you needed.

But beyond its beauty, Ekas is a living landscape. It’s not only visually striking, it’s home to a thriving ecosystem, where sea and land coexist in balance.

The shoreline here is gently sloped, which gives the beach a wide-open feel — the kind of openness that makes sunrise and sunset all the more dramatic. In the late afternoon, the waves remain calm, even when the wind picks up. As the sun begins to sink, it throws warm orange light across the bay’s surface. The white sand, a signature of Lombok’s southern coast, glows soft against a backdrop of low hills and fading sky.

This is what makes Ekas a rare place: it doesn’t just look beautiful. It feels still, natural, and deeply alive.

Ekas Beach is Place Like No Others

Ekas Beach Lombok

1. The Landscape, Above and Below

Ekas Beach sits on the same stretch of coastline as Pantai Cemara, Pantai Surga, and Pantai Kaliantan — a region known for its wild, untouched beauty. But Ekas offers something even more immersive: a stunning bay, underwater wonders, and a horizon you can lose yourself in.

Beneath its calm surface lies a vivid marine world. Coral reefs thrive in multiple colors. The water is so clear it tempts visitors to stay in it for hours. Snorkeling and diving are popular here, especially in dry season, though during the rainy months, the water can turn murky due to rivers feeding into the bay.

Still, even when the clarity dims, the feeling remains — this is a place meant for being fully present.

2. The Life of the Bay

Ekas isn’t just for visitors. It’s part of daily life for the nearby fishing community, and that’s part of what makes it so compelling.

You’ll see boats anchored close to shore, fish cages floating near the surface, and wooden rafts used to farm lobster and seaweed. The small dock has been used by local fishermen for years. Around fifty floating huts serve as workstations for harvesting grouper and shrimp. On land, locals build boats using simple tools and generations of knowledge.

Walk along the beach and you might spot fresh fish being cleaned and cut, ready to become bait for the next catch. It’s a raw, unfiltered look at a life shaped by the sea — and it gives Ekas a sense of character you won’t find at more polished tourist spots.

3. Waves for Every Level

If you surf, Ekas offers waves worth chasing. What’s unique here is the variety: from gentle rollers for beginners to powerful, technical breaks for more experienced surfers.

The beach is home to two main surf zones: Inside Ekas and Outside Ekas.

Inside Ekas lies within the bay. The waves here form smooth walls with crisp peaks and the occasional right-hand barrel. On the best days, they can stretch long and clean, ideal for learning or refining your style.

Outside Ekas is more intense — a left-hand wave that can reach five to ten feet. It breaks with real force and covers a wide surface, making it perfect for surfers seeking challenge and power.

Together, these spots make Ekas a versatile destination for wave-riders of all levels.

How to Get to Ekas Beach

Ekas Beach Lombok

Ekas Beach is located in Pemongkong Village, Jerowaru District, East Lombok. It’s about 75 kilometers southeast of Mataram City.

It’s best to go by private vehicle, especially a motorbike, since public transportation to the beach is still very limited.

From Mataram, you can take the route through Cakranegara → Kediri → Praya → Mujur → Ganti → Keruak → Jerowaru → and finally reach Ekas. The trip takes about 1 to 2 hours from Mataram, less than an hour from Praya, and only 15 minutes from the Jerowaru town center.

Locals may be more familiar with the nearby Surga Beach, which has a resort. When you’re on the road to Surga Beach, look for an intersection—turn left for Surga Beach, or go straight to reach Ekas Bay. The road to Ekas is in better condition than the muddy road to Surga Beach.

When you arrive, you’ll see homes with fishing equipment in front. Just a short walk from there and you’ll reach the beach, still clean and beautifully preserved.

A Place That Moves at Nature’s Pace

Ekas Beach doesn’t promise fast thrills or curated crowds. What it offers is quieter, slower, and harder to forget: raw beauty, local life, clear water, and the kind of waves that don’t just shape the shoreline — they shape memory.

If you’re looking for a place to breathe, to move with the tide, or to simply stand still under a wide open sky, Ekas is waiting.
