The famous Gili Trawangan and Senggigi Beach to the majestic Mount Rinjani, it seems that Lombok is kind of a complete places to go. But beyond these well-known spots, there’s a hidden sport that not many people know about: Ekas Beach Lombok.
Ekas is a beach area shaped like a bay. It comes with wit a soft white sand and calm waters, creating a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. In addition to its scenic views, Ekas Beach Lombok is also rich in marine life and coastal ecosystems.
The beach has a gentle slope, making it feel wide and spacious—perfect for watching the sunrise or sunset. In the afternoon, the waves are usually calm even when the wind is strong. When the sun sets, the water in Ekas Bay glows orange from the reflection, and the white sand is just like other beaches in South Lombok. Hills surround the beach like natural walls, adding to the beauty of this coastal area in East Lombok.
The Beautiful View of Ekas Beach
Ekas Bay is located on the same coastal route as Surga Beach, Cemara Beach, and Kaliantan Beach. It’s the largest bay in Lombok and not only has stunning views above the water but also offers an incredible underwater experience.
Many visitors are curious about what lies beneath the surface, so they come here to snorkel or dive. However, during the rainy season, the water tends to get murky due to several rivers that flow into the bay.
Ekas Beach is part of the southern coastline that stretches from Kuta Beach in Central Lombok. The water is clear, the sand is white, and colorful coral reefs can be seen through the surface. Visitors often enjoy swimming or soaking in the warm water while watching the sunset. Unfortunately, the beach hasn’t yet been fully managed or developed by the government.
Fishermen Life Around Ekas Bay
Ekas Bay is located in a traditional fishing village. Visitors will see lots of boats and floating fish cages near the shore. An old pier, no longer used for docking, is now a place where locals farm lobsters, shrimp, and seaweed. This makes Ekas Bay a great spot for fishing, too.
Around 50 floating huts have been built by fishermen for raising shrimp and grouper. On land, they build simple wooden boats and rafts. Visitors might even see fish being cut in a small wooden gazebo-like hut, where the chopped fish is used as feed for the grouper. The fish are then sold to markets around Lombok.
Surfing Waves at Ekas Beach

Ekas is also a favorite spot for surfers thanks to its excellent waves. There are different types of waves here: classic regional waves suitable for all skill levels, and reef-rocky waves that break to the left and right. These waves come in various shapes like pipes, walls, and heavy waves.
There are two main surf spots: Inside Ekas and Outside Ekas.
- Inside Ekas is located within the bay. It features wall-shaped waves with amazing peaks. At certain times, the waves form long rides with barreling sections on the right. Lower waves appear on the right side, while the left can reach up to 12 feet high.
- Outside Ekas is known for its powerful left-handers, ranging from 5 to 10 feet tall. These waves are strong and wide, making them exciting for advanced surfers.
How to Get to Ekas Beach
Ekas Beach is located in Pemongkong Village, Jerowaru District, East Lombok. It’s about 75 kilometers southeast of Mataram City.
It’s best to go by private vehicle, especially a motorbike, since public transportation to the beach is still very limited.
From Mataram, you can take the route through Cakranegara → Kediri → Praya → Mujur → Ganti → Keruak → Jerowaru → and finally reach Ekas. The trip takes about 1 to 2 hours from Mataram, less than an hour from Praya, and only 15 minutes from the Jerowaru town center.
Locals may be more familiar with the nearby Surga Beach, which has a resort. When you’re on the road to Surga Beach, look for an intersection—turn left for Surga Beach, or go straight to reach Ekas Bay. The road to Ekas is in better condition than the muddy road to Surga Beach.
When you arrive, you’ll see homes with fishing equipment in front. Just a short walk from there and you’ll reach the beach, still clean and beautifully preserved.
