Experience Lombok from The Sira

Things to Do in Lombok? Here’s What Locals Recommend If you're trying to figure out what to do in Lombok, you’ll probably find lots of suggestions online or in travel blogs. Many of those writers have visited Lombok once or twice and think they know everything about the island. Sure, you can follow their advice if you want. Maybe they’re right. Maybe not. But here’s the difference — we were born and raised here. We’ve seen this island change over time. We may not sound like pro travel bloggers, and that’s okay. What we have are real experiences and things we honestly think are fun to do. So let us share our own list of what to do when you visit Lombok. 1. Hike Mount Rinjani Mount Rinjani is one of the tallest mountains in Indonesia, reaching 3,726 meters above sea level. It’s part of Gunung Rinjani National Park and is a favorite for hikers and nature lovers. The mountain is not only known for its amazing views, but also for its rich plant and animal life. Some rare species live here that you won’t find anywhere else. One of the best parts is Segara Anak Lake, located about 2,000 meters high inside the volcano’s crater. The water is bright blue, almost like the sea. There are also waterfalls that flow from the lake, and some people even fish here. Climbing Rinjani is tough, but the views and the experience are worth it. 2. Visit the Three Gili Islands The Gili Islands — Gili Trawangan, Gili Air, and Gili Meno — are a must-see when in Lombok. These islands have white sand beaches, clear water, and amazing underwater life, perfect for snorkeling and diving. Gili Trawangan is the busiest and most lively. Gili Air is a mix of quiet and fun. Gili Meno is calm and peaceful — great for families or couples. Gili Meno also has a mangrove forest with a lake where you can see birds and small fish. You can walk on wooden paths to explore the area. Even though some parts could use fixing, it’s still a relaxing place to visit. 3. Explore Sade Village Sade Village is about 27 minutes from the Mandalika Circuit and offers a chance to see Sasak culture up close. The Sasak people are the native people of Lombok. In the village, you’ll see how locals live, fish, and weave traditional cloth. The houses are made from bamboo and thatched roofs, without using nails. You can also buy handmade crafts as souvenirs. 4. Escape to Another Gili: Gili Nanggu If you want somewhere quieter, visit Gili Nanggu in Sekotong, West Lombok. This small island is known as “Paradise Island” and offers calm, clean beaches and clear water. There are two great snorkeling spots around the island where you can see colorful fish and coral reefs. Gili Nanggu also has a turtle conservation project that helps protect sea turtles by safely hatching their eggs. 5. Visit Benang Kelambu Waterfall Benang Kelambu Waterfall is in Aik Berik Village, Central Lombok, and takes about 1.5 to 2 hours to reach from Mataram. From the parking area, you’ll need to hike for around 30 minutes through a green forest. The waterfall looks like soft threads of water flowing down — that’s why it’s called “Kelambu,” which means “curtain.” It’s a peaceful spot to relax, cool off, or even take a swim. Don’t forget to bring a towel and a change of clothes.

The Sira is the perfect home base for discovering Lombok’s natural beauty. From here, you can easily take day trips to the Gili Islands, Mount Rinjani, Tiu Kelep Waterfall, or the famous Pink Beach (Tangsi Beach). And when it’s time to come home, the comfort and elegance of The Sira awaits.
