Top things to Do in Lombok

Hike Mount Rinjani

Mount Rinjani is one of the tallest mountains in Indonesia, standing at 3,726 meters above sea level on Lombok Island, West Nusa Tenggara. It’s part of the Gunung Rinjani National Park, making it a favorite for hikers and nature lovers alike.

Rinjani isn’t just known for its stunning views—it’s also home to a rich diversity of flora and fauna, including several rare species not found anywhere else.

The mountain’s peak, Dewi Anjani, and the Segara Anak Crater Lake are breathtaking sights. This area is a conservation zone managed by the national park.

The Segara Anak Lake at about 2,000 meters high is a key attraction. Its stunning blue waters resemble the sea, and there are waterfalls that cascade from the lake’s edge. Many hikers also fish in the lake, where you can catch carp and tilapia.

Climbing Mount Rinjani is sure to be an unforgettable adventure.

Visit the Three Gili Islands

The Gili Islands—Gili Trawangan, Gili Air, and Gili Meno—are a must-see in NTB. Known for their white sandy beaches, clear blue waters, and vibrant marine life, these islands are perfect for snorkeling and diving.

Gili Trawangan is the largest and most bustling, while Gili Air and Gili Meno offer a more peaceful vibe.

One need to be highlights is, Gili Meno, located between Gili Trawangan and Gili Air, has its own unique charm. This is a great spot for families or honeymooners who want to get away from the crowds.

The island also features a mangrove forest surrounding a lake, home to various bird species. Visitors can walk along wooden bridges to explore the lush mangrove forest and watch small fish swimming in the lake. Though the infrastructure needs some maintenance, it’s still a serene spot worth visiting.

Explore Sade Village

Sade Village, located just 27 minutes from the Mandalika Circuit, is a chance to interact with the native Sasak people of Lombok. Here, you can witness traditional weaving techniques, fishing, and netting fish firsthand.

The village’s homes are very traditional, with thatched roofs, bamboo walls (without nails), and dirt floors. As you watch local women weave, you can also shop for handmade crafts to take home as souvenirs.

Escape to Another Gili

If you’re looking for a quieter escape, head to Gili Nanggu in Sekotong, West Lombok. Known as “The Paradise Island,” it’s a peaceful 12.5-hectare island offering pristine beaches and crystal-clear waters.

You can snorkel in two areas around the island, where you’ll encounter colorful fish and beautiful coral reefs. There’s also a turtle conservation program that’s been running since 1995, contributing to the protection of sea turtles by buying their eggs from local fishermen and hatching them safely on the island.

Visit Benang Kelambu Waterfall

Benang Kelambu Waterfall, located in Aik Berik Village, North Batukliang, Central Lombok, is about a 1.5 to 2-hour drive from Mataram. The trek to the waterfall is a 30-minute hike through a lush tropical forest, making the journey an adventure in itself.

The waterfall’s name, which translates to “curtain thread,” reflects its appearance: delicate streams of water cascading down the cliffs. The cool, refreshing water and tranquil surroundings make it an ideal spot to relax and enjoy nature. Don’t forget to bring a change of clothes if you plan on taking a dip!

We know this list could go on forever, and yeah, it might take a bit to get through. But don’t stress – we’ll get into the details of each spot soon enough. And who knows, we might even throw in some hidden gems you won’t find anywhere else!

The goal? We just want to get you excited to have fun and make the most of your time in Lombok.
